The full story

The problem

The museum in Ruma wanted to modernize how visitors experience its collection. It needed tablets that show its images and content in specific layouts. We built the solution on VIVA, our CMS for museums, where content is added, arranged into layouts and adjusted for how it appears on the device. Visitors use two Android apps on the tablets: a museum app that shows the content, and a virtual curator, an AI assistant that talks about the themes the museum chooses.

Content like this is usually prepared once and is hard to change, so the museum wanted to decide what appears and how it is presented without calling a developer for every change.

What we built

We started from our Digital Signage platform and adapted it to the museum's needs. That is how VIVA, our CMS for museums, came to life. Staff add content, place it in a layout and adjust how it is shown on the tablet, then assign that layout to the device they want it on, so each tablet shows what the museum intends.

The museum app shows that content in the format the museum wants. On top of that we added the virtual curator, an AI assistant that talks with visitors about museum-managed themes, answering from the material the museum has approved. That is how the curator came to life.

In the museum, the curator speaks as Mileva Marić. Her tablets are mounted as the heads of figures in period dress, so visitors talk to her face to face in the rooms about her life.
